I'm a bit of an eclectic mess πŸ™‚ I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

"Don't Blame the Annotator: Bias Already Starts in the Annotation Instructions. (arXiv:2205.00415v2 [cs.CL] UPDATED)" β€” A hypothesis that annotators pick up on patterns in the crowdsourcing instructions, which bias them to write many similar examples that are then over-represented in the collected data and a study of this bias in 14 recent Natural Language Understanding (NLU) benchmarks.

"Auditing Gender Presentation Differences in Text-to-Image Models. (arXiv:2302.03675v1 [cs.CV])" β€” A method using fine-grained self-presentation attributes to study how gender is presented differently in text-to-image models to quantify the frequency differences of presentation-centric attributes (e.g., "a shirt" and "a dress").

"Sparse Mixture Once-for-all Adversarial Training for Efficient In-Situ Trade-Off Between Accuracy and Robustness of DNNs. (arXiv:2302.03523v1 [cs.CV])" β€” A method that allows a Deep Neural Network (DNN) to train once and then in-situ trade-off between accuracy and robustness, that too at a reduced compute and parameter overhead.

I am looking for software engineers who are not white males and would be willing to volunteer to record a short (30-seconds) video about why ethics is important in their professional practice. It's for our first-year Computer Science students. I have the white male videos sorted, and would like a more diverse group. If you would like to help, get in touch with me here. Thank you! :)

For today's , I have a very special tree.

This is an ancient hornbeam tree that is about 700 yrs old.

It looks like two trees, but it's actually a single tree that has begun to compartmentalise in the latter part of its life. I explain more about this below.

I'd love to go back to shoot this again in the fog. Here's hoping things align the next time I have an opportunity to get up to this remarkable forest.

Hello, I am a friendly person who enjoys coffee, photography, and cat pictures a lot. I am obsessed with stationery items, especially with fountain pens. I am also an assistant professor of computing science but I am planning to share more of personal stuff here (and occasionally a bit of work updates perhaps) when I have time. This is my belated

I’m Adam, an indie developer living in Louisville, KY. I’m building omg.lol because the internet needs more spaces focused on fun and kindness, and that’s the kind of stuff that I want to build. I also love interactive fiction and hanging out on IRC (so, yeah, I basically love words on screens πŸ˜…).

I went out in the backyard to watch and photograph the full moon rising on February 5, 2023. I used various settings to get different light and color...this was one of my favorites. A tad bit spooky but beautiful at the same time.

With translucent, jewel-colored ears, Glass Gem Corn was developed by Carl Barnes, a part-Cherokee farmer and breeder from Oklahoma. Barnes crossed several traditional corn varieties and saved seed from the most vivid, translucent kernels. It was gifted to Native Seeds Search by Bill McDorman, who acquired it from Barnes' student Greg Schoen following Barnes' death.

A flint variety, it is used for making flour or as a popping corn.
