I'm a bit of an eclectic mess ๐Ÿ™‚ I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

2023-01-10 day 211 of doing art every day for a year (mostly - I took sick days off).

I'm a bit behind in posting, so don't be surprised at a whole bunch of posts showing up in the next few days. ๐Ÿคฃ

This is a Tatyworks watercolour tutorial. I learn a lot about Procreate and how I can use it with her tutorials. I've tried watercolours without her, and they were a mess. ๐Ÿคฃ

Sunflowers

2023-01-09 day 210 of doing art every day for a year (mostly - I took sick days off).

This is an experiment. I got a thick paint brush and wanted to take it for a spin, and this is the result.

Some pretty sweet icicle action going on with the trees today. Theyโ€™re remnants of an ice-storm that came through a couple of days ago.

James Forten was born a free man in 1766 in Philadelphia. During the Revolutionary War he was a powder boy on a sailing ship, only to be captured and then released by the British. He resumed employment as a sailmaker, going on to own the business and employ 38 people. He invented a new type of sail and made a fortune. He funded causes, purchased freedom for enslaved people, opened his home as an Underground Railroad depot & started a school for children.

Having recently acquired a macro lens, I believe I'm contractually obliged to try and shoot some imagery. Here's my first candidate.

And thatโ€™s all for another day of paper reading โ€” 7 papers boosted (out of a total of 91 today) in the cs.CV category on arXiv.org.

It feels as if I spent way more time on the 7 papers than I do on like 15 papers on other days, but thatโ€™s how it goes โ€ฆ

"ImaginE: An Imagination-Based Automatic Evaluation Metric for Natural Language Generation. (arXiv:2106.05970v2 [cs.CL] UPDATED)" โ€” An imagination-based automatic evaluation metric for natural language generation, which with the help of StableDiffusion, automatically generates an image as the embodied imagination for a text snippet and computes the imagination similarity using contextual embeddings.

This picture was accidentally taken with my iPhone 13 Pro. Being out in the country I wanted to take advantage of the lesser light pollution and get a clear image of the starsโ€”only to get photobombed by the Milky Way.

"ShiftDDPMs: Exploring Conditional Diffusion Models by Shifting Diffusion Trajectories. (arXiv:2302.02373v1 [cs.CV])" โ€” A novel and flexible conditional diffusion model by introducing conditions into the forward process. The process utilizes extra latent space to allocate an exclusive diffusion trajectory for each condition based on some shifting rules, which will disperse condition modeling to all timesteps and improve the learning capacity of model.

"ReDi: Efficient Learning-Free Diffusion Inference via Trajectory Retrieval. (arXiv:2302.02285v1 [cs.CV])" โ€” A simple yet learning-free Retrieval-based Diffusion sampling framework capable of fast inference, which retrieves a trajectory similar to the partially generated trajectory from a precomputed knowledge base at an early stage of generation, skips a large portion of intermediate steps, and continues sampling from a later step in the retrieved trajectory.
