I'm a bit of an eclectic mess 🙂 I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

"SIr Lanka Files": In an island city where the Cat Men of the Thieves Guild rule supreme, DaVic, a private eye with more quips than credits, takes on a job for the Thieves Guild from a mysterious femme fatale. This job lands him on the run through the dark streets of Sir Lanka, trying to stay one step ahead of those who pursue him.

In trying to unravel the mystery, he ends up finding a sidekick in the form of a Thieves Guild Tea Leaf, KarJa. With her help, the duo start cracking the case and when Sir Lanka is brought to the brink of war by way of a clash of ideals between the Guild and a nascent revolution, would DaVic and Karja be able to stop a bloodbath? Or will they be too busy helping tree-like aliens who are wary of human contact, or dealing with a bunch of alien scientists who are conducting experiments in the very heart of Sir Lanka?

Today apparently Apple will announce the new iPhone.

This is the first year since I began iOS development where I don't care at all 🙂

I'm already about 95% out the door in terms of using Apple. I have found my replacements and they are at least half as cheap as Apple hardware. The only thing I'm not sure about is the when.

I'm probably going to let my current Apple devices come to point where I'm not happy with their performance (or they die) and then I'll be switching one by one to non-Apple hardware.

At least, that's the plan. I guess how this will turn out as the years go by, but I'm certainly not watching the Apple event today. That's a start.

@auguryignored I have a political satire set in a future Sri Lanka and it's sci-fi but not sure if it'll appeal to you since some of the stuff is in-jokes that only Sri Lankans will (probably) get 🙂

One of my top 100 fave linguistics facts.

A calque is a word made by translating word-by-word from a foreign language. A loan word just uses borrows a foreign word - as it says.

The word loanword is a calque of the German noun Lehnwort. In contrast, the term calque is a loanword, from the French noun calque ("tracing, imitation, close copy")

RS, Author, Novelist, Prosaist

I have greatly revised my introduction. Whilst you might not want to take a look, I think you'll like that I clearly state that I boost posts that announce authors' work and publications. I do this pretty much unconditionally, as I believe it's the right thing to do, but there is a caveat.

I’m a 18‐year‐old transgirl from Eastern Germany. My parents are right‐wing extremists and have a problem with trans people. I am currently staying with my grandma, but she wants me out by 8 September latest.

I am going to stay with a friend from 9 to 10 September, but I still need a place to crash from 8 to 9 September, and also a more permanent solution for the time after. I am not bound to any particular place, but I would like to stay in Germany for now.

I am also looking for a job in IT, preferably in systems operations. I have been working with Linux in my free time for a few years now and I am really into NixOS. CV upon request.

I read a book and I liked it 🙂

It's been a while since I've compleed a book. I've picked up multiple books over the last few years and I generally couldn't finish them.

But then I started reading "Pink Tuxedo" this weekend and by the time I got to the middle of the book, I couldn't put it down.

Here's my review:

@jefframes We weren't doing TIme Machine backups but were using CCC for backup and Synology worked very well for the two of us (me and the wife) for years.

I don't really like Time Machine since it caused way too many issues for our own needs 🙂

We've also just used rsync to backup stuff and that has worked very well and was much faster in some cases than CCC. But basically, CCC is really fast after the first backup but the first backup takes a long time. rsync was consistently fast but is slower than the secondary backups for CCC, if that makes sense 🙂

The only reason we switched away from Synology was because the Synology is too big to travel with.

It's time for the job hunt again. If you've been enjoying my posts now's your chance to see how I work!

If anyone has NY-based or remote or roles at the Lead/Manager/Director level, please sent them my way!

And if not - I'd still appreciate the signal boost.

Due to the massive layoffs at Branch two weeks ago, I am currently in search of a new job opportunity.

I'm looking for something along the lines of customer support specialist, customer support manager, customer service manager, community management, social media management or similar. (cont...)
