I'm a bit of an eclectic mess πŸ™‚ I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

@BobWilliams Will do πŸ™‚ Current plan is to release on the 15th of August, no idea if I'll hit the target or not. But I guess we'll see?

If you're interested, you can see more details about the book here:
https://books.farook.org

It's the first one β€” "Sir Lanka Files" πŸ™‚

@BobWilliams I'm glad you got the app submitted. It's always a relief once it's out of your hands, or at least, for me it is πŸ™‚

My current project (well, realy side-project) is a novel. The writing is done. So it's just editing and while I've set a target for release, I'm hopeful that I'll achieve the publication date. So not a lot of pressure πŸ™‚

@kkolakowski You do get all that from "No Man's Sky" πŸ™‚ If you want to play with others, I guess it's there, but it's never been that intrusive/obtrusive for me.

My wife and I play together but we don't really want to play with other players and we nver do. We explore, build bases, follow missions etc. all on our own. Have not met anybody else in the game (that we know of) who's another player. We do see player ships in space sometimes, but that's about it ...

A wide ask here so please boost: my grandfather is trying to get rid of an old business computer, and I was wondering whether any vintage computer people might want it. It was purchased for $50k from The Ultimate Corporation in the early 80s. This ran the Pick operating system, and my best guess is the hardware was originally manufactured by GE or Honeywell. It's about the size of a half-rack and currently lives in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. It has sat covered in plastic in a chemical warehouse for the past 35 years. Where do people usually post stuff like this other than here? Thanks!

@BobWilliams Glad you had a productive day, Bob πŸ™‚I haven't had to submit stuff in a long time, but that process is always a bit panic-inducing because I am never sure if something has changed since the last time ....

@AngelaPreston I had never considered pickles as a jokeworthy subject, but now I get what the big dill is πŸ˜€

"Find Me Falling" (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt19862722) is a beautiful movie. It feels very British for some reason, but I guess it's not?

The locations in Cyprus are beautiful, the music is great, and the story is lovely. Well worth watching πŸ™‚

@TriflingTree Ah, good to know. I've never tried it through ChatGPT. But that's something to keep in mind πŸ™‚

@TriflingTree Thank you πŸ™‚I only tried a few images with Dall-e3. I think I had access through a service like Poe or something, I can't remember the details.

When I tried it, the only examples I had for good Dall-e images were the ones I'd seen from you. So I expected a style like what most of your images have and I didn't get that style. Which is why I asked πŸ™‚

When I figure out where I had access to Dall-e3, I'll give it a try again with your prompts to see what I get and let you know.

@TriflingTree Thank you so much β€” appreciate it very much πŸ™‚And if you'd like an ARC of the next novel, let me know and I'd be happy to send it to you. It's not Dick Turpentine, but now I'm re-evaluating what goes next anyway based on your feedback πŸ˜€

@gaveen Absolutely πŸ™‚I came back to the game, or was reminded of it, because somebody on here mentioned the new update and I read up about it and all the stuff looked interesting.

I agree. It's very impressive that they keep on adding massive updates to the game 8 years later πŸ™‚I bought it when it came out and I still continue to play it every few years.

I can't think of any other game which has added this much of free updates. Sure, some have paid DLCs but even those, I don't think have stretched on for an 8 year period. So hats off to Hello Games.

@gaveen Honestly, I don't have an idea as to what the update is without looking it up, especially since they have a part number and a version number πŸ˜›Apparently, it's Worlds Part 1: Update 5.0 but that's all I know since I came back to the game after 2 years πŸ™‚

The wife and I played "No Man's Sky" yesterday. It was fun to use the second-controller/co-pilot feature on PS5 and be able to play together even though it was a single-player game. We enjoyed the game a lot more now that both of us could play at the same time β€” it felt way more engaging πŸ™‚

I realized that I'd last played the game over two years ago but my base was still there. We were able to explore further and start doing a lot more now that both of us are playing. Not because we were exploriing separately β€” it's a single-player game after all β€” but because we felt like playing more.

We even got to the first space station, spoke with some aliens, and figured out where the next bit of the game leads us.

I was tempted to start a new game to see if their introductory mission(s) had changed since the last time I played, but really couldn't bring myself to go through the introduction all over again. So we opted to just play on with the current mission.

Looking forward to doing some more gaming today and exploring further πŸ™‚

@davemark Absolutely! There are so many tutorials around for Affinity too. And YouTube videos. Every time I come back to Affinity, that's what strikes me the most β€” how easy it is to find information about anything you want to do with an app from the Affinity Suite πŸ™‚

@davemark And if you have any of their v1 products, the universal subscription gets a further bump down in price πŸ™‚We owned v1 Designer and Photos, and I think I upgraded to the v2 universal license for about $65 or something ...

It's an offer you can't beat! Especially given we got v1 updates for about 7 years or so for the one-time price.

I got my first unsolicited feedback about my novel today and it has made my day (and probably week) πŸ˜€

I know that sometimes "unsolicited" is looked upon negatively. But in this case, what I mean is that I didn't ask somebody what they thought of my book. They volunteered the information and let me tell you, I personally am elated when somebody tells me something (whether good or bad) about something I wrote. Because that tells you that it made an impression on them in some way.

I wrote that book about 20 years ago, but so far had not had any direct feedback except for when I asked, or when somebody left. a review on a site. Reviews on a site somewhere that I might not see for years don't have as great an impact, at least for me, as when somebody tells me personally. So, for me, this was a big milestone. And I'm really happy about it πŸ™‚

@TriflingTree I love this particular style πŸ™‚ Did you have to use a particular prompt to get this style? Not that I've done much with Dall-e3, mind you. But I like the style you always seem to get with the Dall-e3 images ...
