Sprained my wrist again.

What was I doing, you ask?

Sleeping. I was sleeping.

Here are some small tips for new masto users:
-FOLLOW LOTS OF PEOPLE.
-follow hashtags you have interest in
-USE HASHTAGS when you post!

Mastodon doesn’t have an algorithm like twitter or Instagram (which is a good thing) so you get to really curate your experience here. Following more people and following hashtags gives you a feed with lots going on and helps expose you to new people!

Use hashtags so others can find you!

Also, the biggest thing I can recommend is to actually INTERACT.

Some I’d recommend to get started:

• Fill out your profile and introduce yourself in a post with the hashtag!
• There are no algorithms to serve posts (or ads!) to you! Try to follow more people than follow you and boost (share) others’ posts to build your own timeline! (Likes do nothing other than saying you, well, like something!)
• There’s a strong culture of accessibility on the . When uploading media, use to succinctly describe what it depicts!

Mastodon•ART 🎨 Curator

There are many folk on .art, and even more besides, who need alt text to be able to interact with the media in toots.

Alt text can be as simple as 'a pencil sketch of a tree' or 'an abstract painting in red and blue' - you don't need to write essays.

See a guide on alt text here:

https://mastodon.art/@Curator/109279035107793247

I don't boost anything that doesn't have alt text (or a call for help with alt text), and neither do many others. If you want your work shared more, alt-text it. <3

@TheOtherHand Welcome to .art!

Hashtags are important here for discoverability:

And we place strong emphasis on accessibility here, so adding image descriptions (alt text) to media is very much encouraged and will actually get you more interactions because more people will be inclined to share your work:

Have fun, and yell if you need help! bob_ross

Canada Day is July 1st.

As we reflect on 156 years of confederation as a nation, and the many positive things about Canada, it's important to acknowledge that our home is on Indigenous land.

The Indigenous people we share this land with are celebrating around 15,000+ years of culture.

This beautiful Indigenous version of Canada's flag was designed by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Curtis Wilson.

📣 To celebrate , we're launching our new CIRA Indigenous stock images collection, a free online resource that addresses the Indigenous representation gap in most stock .

📸 Captured by photographer Shelby Lisk, all images feature a full cast of Indigenous models photographed at Indigenous-owned locations.

We encourage you to use these images for any and all of your digital needs: https://www.cira.ca/indigenous-stock-images

Are you a baker? If so, I need your help! I'm researching sourdough baking during the COVID lockdowns for my MA and would love you to fill out my survey!

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/N9MHNF9

I'm also looking for people to tell me about their sourdough baking journey (Yes, even yours!), so if you would be interested, please DM me!

@irisRichardson mmmmmmmmm blueberry jam.

I used to can my own jams and such. I lived in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada, which is a major fruit belt. I got the best peaches there, and my peach jam was to die for.

Please boost to help me federate my new GoToSocial instance!

And share my icy tree from last winter.

It's supposed to be 100 degrees Fahrenheit here today and I miss winter!

I do have a profile picture but it doesn't always show up....

I have read that covid
is coming to
an “exhausted close”
and though it is true
though it is certainly true
that all of us are exhausted
that does not mean
the virus is coming to a close.

Your child is being eaten by a camel.
Do you:
A) Save your child.
B) Take a photo.

@BlindQuilter CamelCase is just so much easier to read even for the sighted. It just makes better sense all around.
