I'm a bit of an eclectic mess 🙂 I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

Trying to get "Raisins of Wrath", my novella about a cult (and a conspiracy) surrounding sentient raisins out.

Just need to get the cover done, the book laid out, and a few other things done first while juggling health issues in the family.

Last day of the sale!

It ends 11.59pm Saturday 8 March Pacific Time (which is 3.59pm Sunday in Perth, Australia, and that’s the last timezone help I can give anyone 😂)

It’s a great chance to stock up on DRM-free ebooks — browse those two hashtags to check out the huge range of Mastodon indie authors with their books on sale.

@angusm Thanks, Angus. That's good advice. Will try what you suggested. And if you don't ask, you don't get anyway, right? 🙂

@angusm Thank you for the info. I do love good cover artwork 🙂

Never had the money to pay for a good cover artist (the first one I asked about 20 years ago wanted 2K 😛) but would definitely keep Martin in mind should I get to the point where I can afford to pay for cover art.

Today is the 7th anniversary of the launch of my debut book, a space opera novella called "The Warrior Within”, published by Tor.com.

It wasn’t a huge seller, but I'm still fond of it. And I'm currently working on taking the story that it tells further …

I was talking about Van Vogt yesterday. Apparently he arranged to have himself woken up every 90 minutes to write down his dreams. And his stories were based on his dreams.

Don't know if it was that, or me being feverish, or both, but had a series of dreams last night which resolved in to a story.

@bok I think I read Van Vogt first around mid 80s possibly? I remeber "Slan" distinctly and I know that the "Weapon Shops" books also left an impression. I think I tried to find as many books of his in the library as I could but in those days, it was hit or miss to get the full list of books for an author in Sri Lanka 🙂 You got what you got and that was it ...

I don't remember now if I read anything further by him back then, but he and Gordon R. Dickson tackle certain themes that have really appealed to me.

I just learnt about the "something should happen every x words or so" thing from his Wikipedia entry yesterday. I didn't know about it before. I found this really interesting and was trying to see if I can emulate this in my own writing — not sure if I could be that organized/detailed.

I hadn't thought of Van Vogt in years. I do need to re-read them again and this time, I want to pay attention to how things are crafted instead of just getting lost in the story 🙂

Heyo! I'm still looking for a job in Germany.

I have 5+ yrs of professional experience in developing backend python, even more years as hobby.

I know how to work with the infra bits too, and have embedded and networking experience on the side! I know some rust and have done projects with it before.

I live in Hamburg and I'm willing to go for a job with office presence, but 100% remote is preferred.

I'd appreciate if people could send any interesting job possibilities they see in my way.

For visa reasons I must be employed as a full time tech worker, in an English workplace, paying 50k+EUR/yr but I do not need sponsorship. I can speak acceptable German (A2-B1) & am open to learning more.

Reposts welcome!

"A Thousand Blows" (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt21874900) is interesting, layered, gory. It reminds me a lot of "Warrior" and not just because Jason Tobin is in both. They both seem spiritually connected.

"We are men, but we can't be human" says Hezekia in the show and I understand.

Maybe it's the fever, but I found myself thinking about A. E. Van Vogt today. Does anybody even remember him any longer?

I didn't know much about him. So did a deep dive. Apparently he was from Manitoba. Had no idea!

I got hooked after reading "Slan", it was mysterious. Captivating.

The concepts probably seem very dated today and nobody probably would be interested in something like that any more?

But I can't help but hanker for something like that right now. Maybe I'll try re-reading "Slan" and see if it holds up.

Does anybody else have repeating dreams when they are sick? Or is it just me?

I'll have the same dream over and over on a loop the whole night when I'm sick. Generally, it's me trying to do a coding task and failing. Trying again. Faling. Over and over.
