I'm a bit of an eclectic mess πŸ™‚ I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

Lived in: πŸ‡±πŸ‡°πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡³πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬πŸ‡²πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡¦πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΅πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ΆπŸ‡¦πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Hey folks. I'm going to be extremely candid. I'm looking for a role and I need one extremely fast. I was trying to tease this news, but we're expecting twins. If you need any kind of iOS developer work, please please please consider me.

*Niche request, please boost:*

Looking for input and expertise in **how to legally co-own a multigenerational family home** where seven of us live.

Two married couples with kiddos, plus a mother-in-law, all on the same property, living in what is essentially a single unit.

Our goals:
* giving all parties a fair share of home equity, given that one of us paid more for down payment and the rest of us pay for mortgage;
* minimizing complication + taxes when oldest person passes away;
* not paying a ton of money to a lawyer to handle this
* still able to put some/all of our land into conservation, eventually

Ideas:
Tenants in common with a co-ownership agreement? A complex trust? A coop or LLC?

EDIT: I'm in Massachusetts, USA

@InstantArcade @scalzi @elysegrasso Another vote for "Guards! Guards!" and The Watch sub-series in general πŸ™‚ IMO, it has the best character arc of all of PTerry's books.

But The Witches sub-series is my favourite of them all just because of the characters β€” plus, I think I got hooked with "Wyrd Sisters" and it's always held a special place in my heart.

@AngelaPreston I haven't looked this up, but if memory serves, as you said, it has to do with the following part πŸ™‚

Basically, if you are on server B and boost posts from somebody on server A, my understanding is that somebody on server C will get the post if they follow you but aren't following anybody on server A. Not only that, since the post is now on server C, I believe everybody who sees the main timeline of server C will see it (depending on the privacy setting of the original post of course). Or something like that.

Plus, anybody from another server who follows the user on server C (like server D or E or whatever) will also see the post, is how I understood it.

But I might be wrong since I didn't verify what I thought I knew when I wrote all this πŸ˜›

Don't want to come across as begging but I'm scared. 130+ jobs applied for, 2 interviews, 2 rejections. I know it sucks for everyone right now but I really need work.

Laid off while recovering from long COVID. Remote worker since 2015, or blue state with relocation assistance. Project 2025 is on the horizon and fucking terrified because even if Kamala wins, I don't think she's going to protect trans people in red states. At this point a month left before both health insurance & money run out.

All the usual SRE stuff plus all sorts of indepth Linux stuff, actually enjoy cursed bash and regexes. Not the World's Greatest Rockstar Dev but can get by in Python, C, and Go. Lots of monitoring, observability, and big data stuff, also done some heavy security work in the past, plus AuDHD hyperfocus on demand and willing to learn anything.

Will find and fix any problem in a company, if it's technical, political, or something else.

@jefframes Thanks for the detailed, and vivid, imagery πŸ™‚I guess I'm going to go watch some Olympic swimmers now just so that I can have this image in my head ...

@JulietEMcKenna Same thing happened to me today πŸ™‚Woke up, sat down to do something routine and suddenly had this thought which led to me revising a couple of notes in my current WIP and it kind of made the world in the story clearer/better.

Love it when that happens!

Last Friday, July 26th, around Tillamook or Cannon Beach, Oregon my son lost his favorite stuffie and best friend, Bulbasaur. If by some chance someone finds Bulby, please let me know, we'd dearly love to have him back! πŸ’š

A few days ago I lost my job due to the company I have worked for filing for bankruptcy. Now I am looking for a new, preferably startup, to work for.

If you think a full stack developer with 15+ years of C++ experience, 12 years of C#/.NET experience, and with additional experience in kernel development, Windows internals, reverse engineering, Qt and LLVM sounds interesting - please hit me up!

I am located in Sweden and looking for remote positions.

@joforselldev I don't bother with DRM on the books I write because it's just such a hassle for me personally as a reader. Sure, if my books get popular maybe they'll get pirated more easily because of this, but it is it really worth it in the long run to add DRM for just that?

Personally, I don't believe DRM is worth the cost. But that might be just me πŸ™‚

@sarajw Not a name I came up with though since I simply forked somebody else's project πŸ™‚

I think the next one I did (again a fork) was Tusker. But the source code is not on GitHub since the original project was not on GitHub. But again, can't claim credit for the name.

@sarajw Not all of them are public since I just simply write them for my own use most of the time and they are not fully tested for all environments πŸ™‚ My server is an Akkoma server and so is non-standard in its own way ...

I think I have the source (and possibly a distro package) for the very first one here:
https://github.com/FahimF/Mastonaut

I don't believe I made the source publicly available for the rest. Most of them were macOS only or macOS + iOS only though.

@jefframes Not that I've thought about it, no πŸ™‚But now I feel as if I should have somebody do this in one of my books just because of the imagery πŸ˜›

Any particular reason that this thought was brought on?

@sarajw @phanpy @elysegrasso I have written three or four different Fedi clients because this was a feature missing from most of the clients I used πŸ˜€

(Of cousre, I didn't write three or four clients for this particular feature. But I did add the feature to all of them. It's there in my current client too but due to how I implemented things, and because I'm paranoid about missing something, I don't totally hide the post but instead have it as a tiny sliver with just the booster and the boostee. If I want details, I can click on the sliver and see the full post/boost.)

I'm sure this is a wildly long shot but I don't suppose anyone here on the fediverse lives in the Northern Utah area or has contacts here who would be willing to replace a throttle position sensor on an 18 year old Kia for charity so that a middle-aged queer struggling with mental health issues doesn't have to deal with a 3 hr round trip commute to work when it's a 60 mile commute?
