Just finished @scalzi 's excellent Redshirts - now trying again to get into Pratchett's #Discworld series with The Color of Magic

@InstantArcade @scalzi The Colour of Magic may not be the best place to start the #Discworld series: he did not hit his stride until 3 or 4 books in, and those first few novels are almost in a different genre from some of the others. There are several sub-series with only slightly overlapping casts and settings within the longer series. You might find one of the other entry points more interesting. If you like Redshirts, you might like the City Watch books beginning with Guards! Guards!

While TCoM is the first Discworld book, it's not the best. Pratchett's writing matured a lot over the decades. If you don't get on with TCoM try Guards Guards, Equal Rites or Weird Sisters.

@InstantArcade @scalzi @elysegrasso Another vote for "Guards! Guards!" and The Watch sub-series in general 🙂 IMO, it has the best character arc of all of PTerry's books.

But The Witches sub-series is my favourite of them all just because of the characters — plus, I think I got hooked with "Wyrd Sisters" and it's always held a special place in my heart.
