I'm a bit of an eclectic mess ๐Ÿ™‚ I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

If you've noticed Mastodon.social being offline a few evenings this week, it was actually under DDOS those nights. When I asked, I was told the best way to help with Mastosoc's scaling and resiliency-under-pressure issues would be to help them fill this open job posting for a devops position with Mastodon gGMBH:

https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/mastodon/290fd40f-125e-41fc-942d-f4ce59e6bda2

If you know anyone who might be qualified for this position, pass it on!

@davemark Iโ€™m using a customized version of Tusker. Itโ€™s an iOS app and had some very good features that worked for me but the macOS support was via Catalyst and there were a few things I didnโ€™t really like โ€” it wouldnโ€™t remember the window positions for starters.

Since itโ€™s open source, I took the source, modified it to fix all the issues that annoyed me and now I have something I really like. Plus, since Iโ€™m using it as a Catalyst app on macOS, I can give builds to my wife to run on her iPad. So weโ€™re both happy. Of course, that doesnโ€™t help you ๐Ÿ˜›

@yonomitt They research all the info I believe ๐Ÿ™‚ I donโ€™t know if youโ€™ve seen โ€œQI: Quite Interestingโ€ (itโ€™s a British show) and they do a lot of research for the show and what you get on Twitter is kind of repeats/overflow/discards etc. would be my guess โ€ฆ

Forest Bears

This is a Tatyworks tutorial. I did a few things a bit different than her instructions indicated. I like it!

Boat on a Beach series

2023-01-28/29 day 226/227 of doing art every day for a year (mostly โ€“ I took sick days off).

I started with a reference photo, and after I painted the first one, I decided to experiment with various styles and methods. I was curious, and what better way to learn?

Iโ€™m curious which one you like most? I mean, I know which one I prefer, and Fahim gave me his vote as well, but what about you?

Hi ! New to Mastodon, and flailing around a bit. I am totally blind and still adjusting even though it has been over 4 years. Previously I lived aboard my boat for over 10 years. I am a civil engineer/creative writer/Moth Storyteller.

I really miss having @qikipedia posting facts over here. For a week or so, they did and then theyโ€™ve gone back to only posting on Twitter ๐Ÿ˜ž

So I guess Iโ€™ll have to repeat their facts since I do enjoy them โ€ฆ but then there is no quoting posts and I have to resort to screenshots .. Ah, well ๐Ÿ™‚

@Jennifer_Pinkley @davemark Add me to the list of BritBox fans โ€ฆ well, OK I havenโ€™t used BritBox, I used Acorn but itโ€™s almost the same ๐Ÿ˜› BritBox has more variety in terms of content and we were going to subscribe to BritBox (since it had some of the British panel shows we loved etc) once our Acorn subscription ran out, but unfortunately we left Canada and with that went most of our subscriptions โ€ฆ

@gavinmckenzie As I was telling @oscb in a reply, I've just given up on SwiftUI yet again ... Maybe next year ๐Ÿ˜›

I did get the multi-selection working for grids, but then drag and drop turned out to be one item at a time and there apparently is no way around that (yet). Since there is no way to even code an alternate solution, my verdict at the moment is that SwiftUI is just not ready ...

@oscb I'm sorry that you have to go through that. I thought lists were badly implemented when SwiftUI first came out but a lot of things were rough at that point and so I let a few years go by (while checking every years or so) and thought maybe this time around things would be better since a couple of people I know were raving about SwiftUI. But unfortunately, it doesn't look as if it has progressed enough ...

If there's anyway I can help you with your list stuff, let me know since I did a lot of research into this but finally gave up. I started redoing my app as an AppKit app yesterday because there are features that I just have to have and SwiftUI just doesn't seem to be flexible enough to let me code it myself even ..

The river Durance cuts beautifully through the 'barre tithonique' (hard calcareous rocks, Upper Jurassic age) in Sisteron, France.
