I'm a bit of an eclectic mess πŸ™‚ I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

As the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean west of Rapa Nui (Easter Island, Chile) beautiful blue and pink rays project upwards from the horizon. A moai (statue) is silhouetted in the foreground. See more here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/rapa-nui-moai-and-sunset-2-joan-carroll.html

Honestly, how does anybody get anything done with #SwiftUI for non-trivial apps? You can’t do multi-selection in grid views. So if you have an app with a lot of items and want to delete multiple items, the user has to delete them one by one?

Say you get beyond that issue by adding some sort of a selection list, but then you hit the issue of deleting multiple items at once not updating the grid.

And if you get beyond that too, but then you want to do drag and drop with your multiple selections? As far as I can tell, no real way to do that at all! Multiple drop is supported, but not multiple drag. How does that make sense?

I had an app which had progressed to functional level before I hit all these issues. Now I’m seriously thinking of going back and re-wrting from scratch with AppKit since apparently SwiftUI is really not yet ready for this kind of usage …

After almost four years of SwiftUI, I would have hoped Apple was further along than this 😞

Or am I missing something obvious? (That’s always possible …)

I guess I should start sharing some of my art here. This is a tiny murmuration of birds that I painted for my bird-loving partner.

My poor wife has the patience of a saint and I am guilty of such heinous crimes against humanity, that I should have been murdered long ago πŸ˜›

Case in point …

My wife says, β€œThere’s a jam jar on the table.” which is code for, β€œthere’s an almost empty jam jar that you can clean out by eating the last of the jam."

Of course, I simply respond with: β€œThere are some boxes on the table.”

She gives me the look that’s reserved just for me β€” β€œAre you daft? Or are you intentionally mistaking what I said?” is what it says.

β€œWhat? I thought we were making observations,” I respond, smiling innocently πŸ˜€

New day, new opportunity to share what's good/funny/calming. Nobody here needs convincing there's a whole lot messed up. I have nothing new to add to that discourse. People with far more empathy and wisdom have been voicing what needs to be said. It's up to the rest of us to listen, introspect and apply.

Maybe someday we will see ourselves for who we are - each a unique instance of the same base class - life. Our differences are the spicy exceptions, our similarities, the filling rule.

My child told me they need a topic for an argumentative essay they have to write for school.

I am happy to announce they are now writing an essay on how cash bail for non-violent offenses merely serves to deprive the poor of their right to a presumption of innocence and the ability to effectively defend themselves.

Good folks of , I am looking for an endorsement to in the field of CS.cy - computers and society - to upload a preprint of some work.

My ANU page is:

Is there anyone who would be willing to endorse me?
