I was recently laid off and I need help finding a new job. I'm a (primarily) PHP dev with experience in ETL, consuming APIs, writing docs, and some amount of experience with refactoring legacy code and building APIs.

I'm looking for a remote, mid-level position where I can continue to learn and grow as a dev and human, within a team of other devs.

I prefer working with PHP, but I'm open to other programming languages.

Elijah McCoy was born in 1844 in Ontario to formerly-enslaved parents from Kentucky. They saved enough to send him to Scotland to study mechanical #engineering. When he returned and couldn't get work in his field, he took a job as a train oilman and invented a method of automatic lubrication that eliminated the frequent stops trains had to make to oil up axles & bearings. Charles Henry Turner was a pioneer in entomology - and he couldn't get a job in higher ed, so he taught high school biology.

"Across his distinguished 33-year career, Turner authored 71 papers and was the first African American to have his research published in the prestigious journal Science."

His simple but elegant experiments in public parks revolutionized understanding of bees.

Some good news about western #monarch #butterflies (not the ones that @migrate to @Mexico):

“Volunteers who visited sites in #California and #Arizona around Thanksgiving tallied more than 330,000 butterflies, the highest number of these #insects counted in the last six years. It was a promising rebound after the annual winter count in 2020 recorded fewer than 2,000 butterflies.”

As noted in the article, though, this isn’t thanks to better #conservation practice.
