I'm a bit of an eclectic mess ๐Ÿ™‚ I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

Zion National Park is another great place in the US Southwest to explore. This shot was taken on the hike up to Angel's Landing. Unfortunately, I didn't get all the way up, because my brother was waiting at the bottom... I had told him that I'd just hike up for 10 minutes and see what I see, but then an hour went by and I figured I should probably turn back.

This immature perched for some time on the clothes line and was looking quite aristocratic and regal. The juvenile Goldfinches are quite beautiful in the subtle colors of buff and brownish black plumage. I find that the fact that the is one of the strictest in the bird world quite interesting.

Looking forward to the upcoming Milky Way season! This was taken last year in Avalon, NJ. Shooting the Milky Way at the Jersey shore is always best early in the season before the crowds come back and the light pollution increases.

Prints available here!

I confessed to my daughter that I was bragging about being her mom.
I told her how proud I was of her DahliaAddict.com project.
Sometimes, I forget to tell the person that matters the most.
I asked for some pictures of her garden.
Her pictures are better than mine.

When someone tells you that you are not good enough, that you can't do something, it is because in their heart they fear you can. Use this knowledge, and prove their fears correct!

Hi friends, I was laid off from Google last week and I'm looking for new opportunities. I'd like to find a role where I'm directly working with people to address their infrastructure needs.

A few of the types of problems I'd love to work on:

- building internal platforms
- on-prem/hybrid cloud
- cost optimization
- ops/infra tooling

But I'm also open to many other areas of focus. If you're looking for a senior engineer with an ops/infra focus, please get in touch.

I think my new hobby is finding photogenic spots for my motorcycle like this old vintage Texaco sign just outside of old town Acworth.

Most folks know about da VInci's Vitruvian Man. But not as many know about Buckminster Fuller's Cheetodesic Dome.

โ€žThe morning bird gets the wormโ€œ
Do not listen to that bullshit. Worms are gross.
Sleep. I saw some birds eating stuff at 4pm.

I keep hearing that is not likely to replace . To that I say: so what?
I've been contributing to the desktop for the last 15 years not because it's likely to replace , but because providing people with free desktop is the right thing to do.
I use and support Mastodon not because it's likely to replace Twitter, but because it's a social network done right.

I'm a former historian, researcher / author who switched careers about a year ago to become a software engineer (currently an ML engineer @ ZenML working on ).

I'm retraining myself to think and work in technical domains. Software is my day job, but around the edges I'm studying (mainly via ), mathematics (via Open University's degree) and also the 'Basic Program' at Chicago University.

Day 27

Hellebores in my garden
I took this photo last March while having a wander in my back garden. At the time I had Covid and was looking for something to cheer myself up. The Hellebore flowers provided that cheer. Although I did manage to slice my finger open while cutting the flowers ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ
