I'm a bit of an eclectic mess πŸ™‚ I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

New call for pitches from MIT Technology Review, for our upcoming issue on . We're looking for *big* swings: narrative features, investigations, essential profiles, and sharp essays at the general intersection of accessibility and technology.

Pitch deadline: Feb 3
Our rates range from $1-2/word.

This is the first time I've posted a pitch call to @Mastodon, so let me know if there are hashtags I should add or groups I should cc.

It's raining on and off; little chance to indulge in gardening today.

Got a few photos and now back indoors just as rain picked up. It's more than a drizzle now - the plants seem delighted to be spared from cycles of frost and baking sun.

Eastern Black Swallowtail Butterfly.

Sitting on a Great Blue Lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica).

I was just minding my own business photographing flowers when this butterfly landed on the Lobelia near me. She stayed for a few minutes and was on her way.

January Joy - Day 24
"Canola Field in Bloom"

The snow is gone again, but it's still very cold outside. Waiting for Spring to arrive. Somewhen last Spring I saw this beautiful canola field during a bike tour on the Mulderadweg (Mulde Bike Path) in Germany and of course had to take pictures.

Yesterday's #StableDiffusion prompt was: "Making Money".

Not any of the resulting images had anything to do with the #DiscWorld novel, and some didn't even seem to fit the concept of the title, but hey, that's how it goes, right? πŸ˜›

"Look at Adjacent Frames: Video Anomaly Detection without Offline Training. (arXiv:2207.13798v5 [cs.CV] UPDATED)" β€” A solution to detect anomalous events in videos without the need to train a model offline, based on a randomly-initialized multilayer perceptron that is optimized online to reconstruct video frames, pixel-by-pixel, from their frequency information.
