I'm a bit of an eclectic mess 🙂 I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

After a conversation with somebody on here about Mastodon clients and filtering, I cleaned up my JavaScript Mastodon client code and put it up here:

It’s pure JavaScript — no libraries, no dependencies … except for FontAwesome and BootStrap. And my original aim was to keep the code simple and uncomplicated.

It doesn’t do much at the moment except to allow you to connect to a Fedi server and to fetch posts (and maybe favourites and bookmarks? I forget …)

I was fixing an issue in my variation of Tusker today (where going several levels deep into a conversation would cause a crash) and I realized just how far I’d have to go to get the JavaScript client to that level. It probably would be easier in some respects and having the code as JavaScript would mean that it would run on so many different platforms, but do I have the fortitude to work on yet another client?

I’m not sure … But I do feel the itch to actually finish the JS Client … I guess we’ll see …

@AngelaPreston Maybe this will sound judgemental (it’s not meant to be), but I just don’t understand the amount of chaos caused by alcohol. I don’t drink. I have never had a drink that I know of (unless it was accidentally mixed with food or something that I didn’t know about).

So I’m probably not the right person to understand the situation. And yet, I constantly am surprised by how much people seem to love drinking and yet can’t seem to know when they’ve had enough. But as I said, I’m probably not the right person to understand this …

@at Being rather obsessive compulsive, I used to push myself to finish every book and every movie I started even if I didn’t like it after reading/watching for a bit. Took me a long time to wean myself away from that habit … It’s rather freeing once you do 😛

@AngelaPreston I know (or possibly know) how you must feel since I am hard on myself if I don’t get certain things done. And then I’ll keep thinking about it and getting ever more anxious since it’s just not done and I wanted it done.

I tell myself when this happens that it’s OK since other stuff will come up. It doesn’t always help, but beating yourself up over it doesn’t help either since that’s time wasted. So better to just get on with it and that’s what I generally do. Not very helpful, but it works for me, at least in terms of handling the short-term anxiety over not getting it done 🙂

Longer term, I generally forget about it since there’s always so much stuff to do 😛

@hue Unfortunately, people generally tend to take the easy way out. And they will also generally not bother to tell you their reasoning (which might have given you context) since that’s just too much work 😛

Based on what you said, I assumed you were not Iranian. So I did the same thing. We all do it in one form or another. The best we can hope for is to learn from it and possibly adjust our expectations? At least, that’s what I do since hoping that everybody else will change is too much to ask for 🙂
