I'm a bit of an eclectic mess 🙂 I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

An ivory chesspiece, part of a set gifted by the Abbasid Caliph Haroun al-Rashid to Charlemagne in 797. Possibly carved in Sindh (in Pakistan), this piece was a rook, which were war-elephants at the time, not castles. Along with this chess set, the Caliph sent a real elephant as a gift. [683x1024]

@at Haven’t used an Xbox in a long time but both Xbox and PlayStation worked well for playing DVDs a long time ago. And I know that at least with PS4, you could also run things like Plex and so be able to use it as a local media server.

I haven’t tried with a PS5 to see if Plex would work on that too since we basically use a Roku stick for our media stuff these days. With regards to the Roku, I know it does a lot of calling home but I think what I did (I forget the details now since it’s been some time) was set up PiHole on the network and shunt Roku through it so that PiHole blocks a lot of the ads and tracking … But that might be a bit too much work honestly 🙂

@AngelaPreston It is interesting and sometimes reminds me of Amazon’s “Jack Ryan” … I’m not sure if I recall this correctly or not but I have a vague recollection that both had a second season which had some similarities …

I was going to say that the only issue was, that if you don’t understand Indian languages, you’d have to watch with English subtitles but it appears that it now does have audio in English … So I can’t recall now whether we watched originally watched in Hindi or English, but either way, it was worth it … in my opinion, of course 🙂

@torben Well, no pizza boxes involved in my case but the rest, I guess more or less real … unless I imagined it all 😛

We absolutely loved “The Family Man” (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9544034) on Amazon Prime Video (which incidentally does some great Indian content) and so I was delighted to see a new show from the same team on Amazon today: “Farzi” (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15477488)

We haven’t watched it yet, but we are looking forward to it since it has got a great cast.

“Dil To Pagal Hai” (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118983) was a movie I absolutely loved when it first came out way back when …

It was probably one of the movies my wife and I watched together after we got married when I introduced her to Hindi movies 🙂 That too was a loooong time ago …

We watched it last weekend again and the magic still remains. The songs are so captivating that just don’t let you go and keep playing over and over in your head … or at least, my head 🙂

Reminiscenses …

I’ve spent the past I-don’t-know-how-many weekends coding and totally lost to other things. I finally have a weekend where I don’t have the urge to code. But of course, that means that I have to do other things like cleaning, accounts and other stuff that I’ve neglected for so long 😛

But still, I’m hoping for a more relaxed weekend — let’s see how it goes …

@p_im_b I used to be like that — any time I get interested in anything, I start collecting and couldn’t stop. I was obsessive about it. I had book collections, comics, movies, newspaper clippings etc. That was when I had lived in the same country for 24 years or so 😛

Then I started moving around and my aim was to always have not more than what would fit into two suitcases. That didn’t quite work out many times but I still try to do that … These days I only collect stuff digitally so that I can have it all on one hard disk. So I still collect books, comics, movies, and mucis but they are all on one hard drive and I feel less burdened somehow 🙂

@mastodon.au was having problems so I'm here and it's time for a new . I was a software developer in a previous life. I spent most of my time with C, C++ and Java. I'm retired now but I really miss it and would be willing to volunteer a few hours a week. I spend my free time with my family, my dog, and these days. My favorite word is cavorting. I renounced my citizenship a few years ago and live in Australia full time but still follow ().

“Gender trolling” of women, esp political opponents and journalists, is becoming an increasingly common feature of rightwing movements. It is a deliberate strategy to silence women and “keep them in their place”.

The design of digital platforms is responsible for the hellscape experienced by women online. Harmful narratives are boosted & amplified via algorithms that make such content sticky & viral, through systems built to maximize attention & widespread distribution.
