I'm a bit of an eclectic mess 🙂 I've been a programmer, journalist, editor, TV producer, and a few other things.

I'm currently working on my second novel which is complete, but is in the edit stage. I wrote my first novel over 20 years ago but then didn't write much till now.

I post about #Coding, #Flutter, #Writing, #Movies and #TV. I'll also talk about #Technology, #Gadgets, #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning and a few other things as the fancy strikes ...

“Towards Attention-aware Rendering for Virtual and Augmented Reality” — An attention-aware model of contrast sensitivity based on measuring contrast sensitivity under different attention distributions and discovering that sensitivity in the periphery drops significantly when the user is required to allocate attention to the fovea.

"The Learnable Typewriter: A Generative Approach to Text Line Analysis. (arXiv:2302.01660v1 [cs.CV])" — A generative document-specific approach to character analysis and recognition in text lines which builds on unsupervised multi-object segmentation methods, and in particular, those that reconstruct images based on a limited amount of visual elements, called sprites. This approach can learn a large number of different characters and leverage line-level annotations when available.

@DaNanner Hadn’t even thought of audiobooks. I never really do, till somebody suggests it — so, thanks for the suggestion 🙂 Will have to check to see if there are any available …

Apparently there’s three books in the series and it looks as if he’s doing a book a year and releasing in September. So will have something to catch up on if I get into it I guess 😛

We watch a lot of British TV and so we knew of him from various panel shows. But I don’t think many in the US would have heard of him ….

"CTE: A Dataset for Contextualized Table Extraction. (arXiv:2302.01451v1 [cs.CL])" — A task which aims to extract and define the structure of tables considering the textual context of the document providing data that helps you with document layout analysis and table understanding using a dataset which comprises 75k fully annotated pages of scientific papers, including more than 35k tables.

@RamenCatholic I hadn’t written in a long time but a few months back got into it just by simply starting a serialised story on my blog. Just needing to have another post ready to go the next day kept me going for a good two weeks … and then I slipped and haven’t written again for a while 😛

Hoping to try that again here by doing a story post once a week and see how it goes. Wrote the first instalment yesterday actually but haven’t published it yet. Possibly sometime this week and then I’ll see how it goes …

I don't see a whole lot of aerial robots, mobile robots, or even autonomous cars on here. There anyone I should be following?

Hi! 👋
I've recently migrated to DataSci instance, so it's time for a new introduction:

I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'm a linguist doing a PhD in Education in the University of Buenos Aires. I'm a enthusiast and I've recently started to learn .

I have a blog where I write about code, generative art, and education, mostly in Spanish but trying to keep it bilingual: https://macarenaquiroga.netlify.app/

@Triflingtree It seems so sad … Is that what the AI has distilled from all of the images of children? And if yes, what does that say about us?

@DaNanner We’ve heard Osman mention the book on one of his shows (“Richard Osman’s House of Games”) but didn’t really check it out since (at least I) figured that it probably was another celebrity cashing on on their fame to write a book 😛

But given your reaction, I might try to find the books and see if I can maybe get into them … Not that I’ve had the attention span to read in a few years, but who knows, the right book might do it. Or so I keep hoping ….
