It seems to me that the Talabat app opens order every half hour when they run out of delivery capacity or have too many orders? I had been trying every few minutes since like 6:35 but it wouldn’t go through but once I got to 7:00am it went through fine …

Once might have been accidental, but this is the second time that this has happened.

It can be argued that electric vehicles are an improvement when replacing ICE vehicles.

But that misses a much bigger point — which is that the very best car is *not* an electric car. The very best car is no car at all!

Building electric cars requires massive use of fossil fuels, including petrochemicals for the manufacture of plastics. In addition, mining of lithium for batteries as well as trawling for other minerals in the deep ocean is environmentally disastrous, killing biodiversity while polluting our water, soil, and air.

Say NO to more cars, of any kind. Push instead for active transportation and for improved public transit.

Continued economic growth is unsustainable. Period. The only logical choice for us and for the biosphere is de-growth.

This is something interesting I saw over on Threads — people asking for Swift developers so that they can connect. I should have thought of that myself over here 😛

I would like to connect with other developers — if you do Swift, much better since I can talk at least halfway intelligently about that, but I’ve done development in a bunch of other languages including Python, Kotlin, Java, PHP, Perl, Pascal, xBase (if you really want to dig deep …).

But I’m looking for people who post about their current development journey — what you are working on, what issues you’re running into, what interests you etc. Doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner, expert, or somewhere in-between, I’m just interested in people who post and who want to have a conversation …

My new social media app is called Grouse. You can only post criticism of the 3,000 other new social media apps.

Posts are called “Gripes.” No likes or reposts—just one button to “Commiserate.” If a Gripe receives enough Commiseration it’s elevated by the algorithm into a “Complaint.”

Also there’s an academic version called “Faculty Meeting.”

Always a gentle reminder to say that creatives like writers and artists like having fan mail or nice things in their inbox.

A good review or fan art will make their day.

I mentioned to my girlfriend that I needed to stop at a used bookstore. She asked why I couldn’t just read one of the hundreds of unread books already on my shelves. She’s a very nice person and we’ve managed to stay together despite her blurting out bat shit crazy stuff like this on occasion. I imagine I have my issues, too.

I wanted to do some engagement comparisons between Mastodon, T2, and Threads but unfortunately, the character counts foil me 😛

I guess I write way too long posts? 😀

On T2, you get a limit of 280 chars, on Threads 500, and here (on Akkoma) I can have an 8,000 char long post …

In that respect T2 is the hardest to get the full post/intent across on for me.

Would anyone else be interested in art/writing prompts centred around character development? 🤔

I know I love those prompts that are like "show your OC's weird, hidden talent" or "What is your OC's favourite fictional character?"

I tried looking for tags but was surprised to see that tags like OCprompt and characterdevelopment and such seem to not have had much use for this sort of purpose. o:
