Pink Tree

2023-02-22/23 day 250/251 of doing art every day for a year (mostly – I took sick days off).

This was a Joel Create tutorial. If you watch the timelapse, you will see that I change my mind a fair bit and redo things. I change the leaves entirely at least three times until I was happy. I’m sure there are faster, more efficient ways to get things done, but I am not there yet. 😀

I've been sick. Hubs, too. Starting to get better, but very very slowly. Busy spending majority of day in bed.

Dark Sky

2023-02-20/21 day 248/249 of doing art every day for a year (mostly – I took sick days off).

I followed a Joel Create tutorial. It’s a bit different from the usual, which is its charm.

A few days ago, I switched over to using the Microsoft Edge browser since it had a few nifty features that I really liked — like the sidebar tools, the ability to “sleep” unused tabs, the Bing search integration with chat (I was testing it out) and so on …

I was happy with things till yesterday when I started noticing subtle issues:

1. Text copied from Edge and pasted into an edit box in macOS behaved strangely. This was rather weird because I’d try to delete (rather than backspace) using the “fn” key and it would go in the opposite direction for some text. Perhaps some leftover invisible encoding?

2. Sometimes you couldn’t click on elements around the edge of the browser window. This one was again weird because the issue would go away if you restarted the browser but over time would re-appear.

I finally had enough of it and switched back to Firefox today 😛

But …. After so many years of using Google as my default search engine, I switched to Bing since I like the Bing results better and I do want to keep testing the Bing Chat feature …

Psychoticat

2023-02-18/19 day 246/247 of doing art every day for a year (mostly – I took sick days off).

I loosely followed a Tatyworks tutorial. Emphasis on loosely.

Her tutorial is for a bear. I did one of a cat.

So my quick sketching skills need work and my cat looks a little bit crazy. And yes, I see the things that could be improved, alas. And yes, that is a blep.

Windmill

2023-02-16/17 day 244/245 of doing art every day for a year (mostly – I took sick days off).
I followed a Tatyworks tutorial. In this tutorial, Tatiana demonstrated the use of the vanishing point guidelines. (I think. This is why I shouldn’t wait a month to do a write up. Sheesh.) I messed it up and didn’t quite follow the instructions properly, so I should do this again (but using another subject, of course.)
And this demonstrates what I like about her tutorials – I learn how to use the bits and bobs of the app.

Indian Ocean Sunset

2023-02-14/15 day 242/243 of doing art every day for a year (mostly – I took sick days off).

This is a very basic painting that’s basically me playing with oil brushes and seeing how it would go.

Sea Turtle

2023-02-13 day 241 of doing art every day for a year (mostly – I took sick days off).

I followed a Tatyworks tutorial. I went rogue in spots, which is becoming increasingly common. It was fun!

The Columbia River separates Oregon and Washington States. There are many beautiful views of this area from both sides of the river. This Image is taken looking east with the Vista house in the Distance.

2023-02-11/12 day 239/240 of doing art every day for a year (mostly – I took sick days off).

This was a bit weird, but also strangely fun!

I followed another Tatyworks tutorial. And by follow, I mean sort of but not entirely. 🤣 I went rogue at one point, then reined it in at the end.

I used a photo I took of my dearly beloved, @Fahim, of course. And at one point, gave him entirely too many moustache curls. 😂 I fixed it, though. The curls were a bit much.

Halfway through, I quit. I hated it at that point. Then a day later, I figured, nope, gotta finish it. It’s all about learning something, right? Right? I mean, that’s why I do these tutorials. Right? 🤣 So I finished it. And here is the most lovely result.

I love when someone does something offensive, and an affected group says “hey, that’s offensive,” or “that is a form of violence against us,” and the offender doubles down and tries to explain why it’s not offensive, that group has no right to be offended, and anyway, you saying it is offensive is a form of violence against ME. Omg just take your lumps and apologize and do better. Humility is a thing you can tap into. No one will mind.

I’ve been peripherally aware of the existence of the Edge browser, but I’ve not really used it till now. (Or, if I tried it originally, I just used it once and then uninstalled — that’s always possible since I try out a lot of stuff …)

I just installed the Edge browser (yes, it’s available on macOS) and was rather pleasantly surprised. It integrates a lot of tools I use all the time, has a better search interface, and has a bunch of game/activities which gives you that little endorphin rush while also helping you learn a lot more …

Showed it to my wife today and she seems to be really taken with it too. I think we’ll be playing around with this for a few more days at least!

And this kind of brings me to what I originally wanted to say. It’s rather interesting that Microsoft these days is going the “embrace all” route. Their stuff is not available just on Windows but is available on macOS too, while Apple generally sticks to their “we support (mostly) macOS” stance.

Reminds me a bit about the good (bad?) old days of Apple vs. Microsoft. Who will win this time around? (Not that I care about the winning or the losing of one over the other, but I do find these different strategies interesting …)

A little bit more on the Edge browser and all the interesting activities it has built-in …

It has this little page of activities that you can try. One of them was to solve a tile puzzle — an image split into tiles and mixed up that you have to arrange corectly.

Once you complete the image, you get more information about the image and hotspots on the image you can click to get more information. If you click on a hotspot, you are taken to a Bing page with photos, relevant links, and a sidebar with additional links that you can explore.

As somebody who loves learning esoteric things, this just feels like the first time I discovered an encyclopaedia, but a lot more fun 🙂

These stoneware pieces are in the kiln now and I am beyond excited to see them on Monday and pop them right back in with some clear glaze and maybe some drippy colors along the lip. What do you think, internet people?
