Canadian who wanders. Redhead by choice. Former accountant. Kitchen witch. Hobbyist photographer. Wannabe artist. Love sci-fi/fantasy. Disabled, chronically ill, neurodivergent. Anti-bigotry. She/her.

Guess should do an , huh?

Well, most people think Iโ€™m a walking contradiction. Iโ€™m both serious and funny. Science-minded yet creative. Visual and verbal. Introverted yet extroverted when I connect with someone. Down-to-earth and a dreamer. Kind-hearted yet hard-edged. Reallyโ€ฆthere is a method to my madness. (Iโ€™ll let you l know when I find it). The key thing is that I love to learn and have an insatiable curiosity (which is probably why I have so many hobbies).

@Circlefruit welcome! I hope you share more of your art. :)

I'm a beginner artist, also self-taught, mainly digital using Procreate on my iPad. I tried pen/pencil on paper, but I'm really shaky with poor motor control, so digital is much better for me.

Hello! My name is Manda and I'm a self taught artist. I work with mostly mixed media right now, but I am still looking for my main medium. I like to paint lots of different subjects but primarily focus on botanicals, landscapes, and portraiture. I really want to improve in all of these areas. I also like to plan and journal in my hobonichi weeks. I love stickers and washi tape!
I hope to find a space here and look forward to meeting lots of new friends!

I just read another news article about why mastodon didnโ€™t make it and is dying. Itโ€™s very sad to hear and probably explains why I have to keep adding more server capacity to handle all the people quitting mastodon.

It makes me so sad that so many people take on society's view of them as deficient, shameful, and deprived. We internalize and individualize systemic and then blame ourselves for our misery.

It just shows how badly a is needed...

I'm sad for my younger self because I grew up thinking the same way. And indeed even my current self: I'm not totally free of internalized ableism, probably never will be. But at least now I have a better chance of spotting it.

This was explained much better on the post where r/blind explained that blind mods can't moderate the subreddit any more.

Serenity At The Lake

I always enjoy the simple yet dramatic moments outdoors. Davis Lake, which is located in Tombigbee National Forest just a few miles from the Natchez Trace Parkway, makes a great setting for sunsets.

@Eiliakins it's something that has to be changed on the server end, so not a setting that a user would have access to. The husband can be rather, er, prolific with his posts, so, yeah. :)

Weird rocks!

This is a really well-done comprehensive article on long Covid in the Scientific American, I hope others will get informed on it and start masking up to protect themselves and others, because it is common and these body systems are truly being affected, and we need to do something. To start we need others to get educated: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/long-covid-now-looks-like-a-neurological-disease-helping-doctors-to-focus-treatments/

@digconart @irisRichardson I remember those days well. At the end, I could only eat applesauce and jello - everything else set the gallbladder off. My skin turned grey and peeled off in chunks. They finally yanked it via emergency surgery.

Side note: did you know hypothyroidism can cause gall bladder problems and gout?

@Eiliakins mastodon tends to be shorter, around 500 characters I think. And complicated to change the text limit in the backend. It's part of why we went with Akkoma - easier to work with. The hubs is a programmer, but also busy.

I suppose even great artists like Picasso and whatnot change their style, so... we're just normal, right? Right? ๐Ÿคฃ

Plus yes, the brain wants candy, and that means play, and that means experimenting. :)

To anyone thinking about joining BlueSky, especially artists: everything you post is sent to a third party for AI labeling.

BlueSky uses AI to label content for moderation, and to do that they use a company called https://thehive.ai. If you look through their privacy policy, you will see that they can use content sent to them to train models for all their services, which include generative AI for both text and images.
