Over 100 billion people have lived on our planet.

Just 622 have been to space.

Just 12 have set foot on another celestial object, our barren moon.

Not a single human has been to another planet.

We know of no other planet that can sustain human life.

Why is it so damn hard to get people to care about protecting the only home we've ever had and the only place we can live?

Michelle Hanson, the photographer, got this shot of downtown Anchorage and the mountains towering behind the city yesterday on a beautiful, clear day.

On this day in history. The Battle of Arbroath was fought between supporters of the Ogilvy and Lindsay families over claims on the administrative control of Arbroath Abbey on 24 January 1446 (or 1445). 600 are said to have been killed. Eastern Black Swallowtail Butterfly.

Sitting on a Great Blue Lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica).

I was just minding my own business photographing flowers when this butterfly landed on the Lobelia near me. She stayed for a few minutes and was on her way.

January Joy - Day 24
"Canola Field in Bloom"

The snow is gone again, but it's still very cold outside. Waiting for Spring to arrive. Somewhen last Spring I saw this beautiful canola field during a bike tour on the Mulderadweg (Mulde Bike Path) in Germany and of course had to take pictures.
