One of my goals this year is to read more self published books, so respond here if you’ve got something I should read!

I’m not a high fantasy, sword and sorcery fan. Ditto for Dune style sci-fi. I am awed at the skill required to write it but don’t enjoy reading it right now.

I am currently enjoying magical realism, upbeat sci-fi, urban fantasy and HEA Romance. I do love horror, specifically paranormal horror.

@LuciaG you could have a look at mine, perhaps…fantasy, but low-magic/non-epic, queer romance, HEA

The Uses of Illicit Art is my most popular
Domesticated Magic is my best
Fair Haven is my favourite

@LuciaG I've got two humorous science fiction novels set in the same universe. Very light reading, lots of wordplay, puns, parodying, and hidden references 🙂

@LuciaG You might want to check out the finalists for this year’s Indie Ink Awards on IndieStoryGeek.com. Not all are self-published but many are! There are also the previous two years of Indie Ink Awards on there, as well as the books and books. (Self published science fiction and self published fantasy, respectively).

@LuciaG Actually, reviewing your current likes, you might try some of the books I've tried for the SPSFC lately.
The Ghost Gun by Gareth Lewis springs to mind specifically, as it's sort of sci-fi/magical realism/esque. It's kind of hard to place, but I'm enjoying it a lot. It's got a strong noir feel to it though.
Meanwhile, Whiskey and Warfare by E. M. Hamill feels like a warm hug. It's the Golden Girls in space!

I wrote a full overview here if it helps to skim through: https://www.skaeth.com/spsfc-reading-first-taste-mini-reviews/

@LuciaG Also, my friend Kia Leep recently released her debut novel Glass Kanin which I recently reviewed too. I'm not certain you'll like it since it's LitRPG, so it's like Kanin's thrown into a World of Warcraft style game, but it has Ghibli feels & also an eldritch horror attached to Kanin's soul who likes to eat other souls and sometimes takes him over. So humor + loss of autonomy + some horror -- but somehow it works!

@LuciaG I have a complete urban fantasy series set in Dublin, Ireland (where I lived for 8 years, so made sure the setting was accurate, minus the magic stuff and events, of course).
The story is about building bridges between enemies and finding one's family, and it has a slow burn low-key romance between two mature people (so no emotional fits, silly arguments, lying, and so on).
It gets dark(ish) and serious at times, but has a lot of friendly banter as well, and a happy ending.
Not sure if you need any links, so throwing one to the series description on my website:
