Our "smart" TV is so old that we're getting warnings that it will no longer support Netflix after the end of this month.
A new TV would be a big expense. But we already had a Roku Ultra that we had gotten for Christmas and had never used.
The problem seems to be solved. Hookup was easy and the unit is small enough that it fit near the TV pretty easily.
I'm feeling pretty pleased that our TV's "planned obsolescence" has been thwarted. And bonus, Roku lets us access some other apps that our TV's operating system could not. I'm not looking to subscribe to anything else, but I don't mind a few ads if it means I can watch more stuff. I mean, I grew up with commercials on TV. I don't love them, but they do provide a chance to duck out to the kitchen for a fresh drink, or to run to the bathroom.
And this solution was (basically) free, since we already had the Roku unit. Take that, Sony. I'mma keep using this TV!
