@lishaberzins You may already know this, but you can follow hashtags โ so following #Birds, for example, might produce some good posts you're interested in.
@lishaberzins My advice is to follow everyone who looks faintly interesting, and look at our site's Local Feed any time your own looks too quiet.

@lishaberzins Hi, I post a #DailyBird. I've found the fastest way to build a feed is to follow hashtags (#birds is a great one) as well as people.
@lishaberzins ๐ there is a lot of wonderful stuff under #gardening #pollinators and #bloomscrolling also
@lishaberzins Do you like squid and other sealife? My neighbor is a squid researcher and has a fun feed: https://elk.zone/jawns.club/@SarahMackAttack@scicomm.xyz
@lishaberzins I post all kinds of nonsense, including mentioning birds and such.
@lishaberzins
Two to follow if not already - birds (& more) & insects:
@ct_bergstrom
@alexwild
You should be able to find many more using hashtags, etc.
Also search Tootfinder: https://tootfinder.ch/ by @buercher
Have fun and good luck!
@lishaberzins Mostly what I do. Posts on Mastodon have been spotty but will be posting a lot more about most of those topics.
@lishaberzins
hey, welcome to Mastodon!
One of the things that helped me most with finding other likeminded people on here was finding out that one can FOLLOW HASHTAGS much like one follows individuals. It's magic, and was a surprise to me when I started out here.
That is different from following individual people, but I have found a bunch of neat people who kept posting with those hashtags.
(To start with, you could follow all the hashtags you mentioned.)
@lishaberzins I'm into birds and wetlands. I haven't been great about posting pictures I take lately because I have such a backlog to edit, but I plan to post more soon.
@lishaberzins Honestly I've found the bird, nature, gardening folks to be some of the most prolific posters. If that's what you're here for, I think you're in the right place.
@lishaberzins @hannu_ikonen @futurebird knows ants. I mean *really* knows ants, and writes incredibly insightfully and poetically about them.
@lishaberzins Hello! There's a pretty decent #RStats community across the Fediverse, and that hashtag might help you find more good folks. I sadly don't really know about birds and insects (not much, anyway, besides "they're cool")โone of my great regrets in life is not pursuing a PhD in the kind of science that involves fieldwork (the fMRI building was in a literal field when I started grad school, but that's as close as I got).
@lishaberzins #rstats is the best hashtag for R folks. Good luck finding your people!
@lishaberzins There is a huge birding and gardening community here! Search on hashtags like gardening, birdwatching, etc. to find people.
@lishaberzins Letโs be friends! Iโm in bird conservation and I also love plants and bugs.
@lishaberzins yeah I do, post about that stuff regularly.
@lishaberzins try following hashtags, it's a quick way to fill up your feed then you can follow specific accounts from there
@parsingphase @lishaberzins Excellent hashtag. Some other bird and insect friendly accounts I follow are @ct_bergstrom
@Jgbird
@ChouvencL
@Swede1952
@kellyromanych @lishaberzins Also, try following ThickTrunkTuesday and Mushtodon, maybe not your first interests but you'll find a lot of nature loving people that way
@lishaberzins you can sometimes find posts with a bird camera and #mushtodon by @welshpixie
@kellyromanych @lishaberzins Oh and Mosstodon and LichenSubscribe! Lots of cool people hang out on those tags.
@lishaberzins Do you know about the #BloomScrolling hashtag? It keeps my feed busy and happy.
@lishaberzins have you tried following those hashtags?
When I joined I didnโt realise you could follow hashtags as well as people - it is gamechanger for finding your tribe
