"Meta's Instagram-linked Twitter rival 'Threads' could arrive on July 6th"
What are the odds you'll sign up for "yet another Twitter"?
It's a Zuck site. Guessing privacy is not a thing.
Not feeling it. Would much rather have a next-gen, privacy-first, social network with innovative features.
Opinions? Anyone diving into Threads when it drops?
@davemark This post has the privacy info from the App Store. https://mastodon.online/@parismarx/110653264454862434
@davemark I’ll be giving it a hard pass. However, I really like the idea that those of us who will want to keep primarily using Mastodon, for the privacy reasons you just mentioned, will be able to follow folks over on Threads and other ‘corporate’ Fediverse social networks.
@davemark Pretty sure all of my non-techie friends are going to move to Threads. They already have an Instagram presence so this would be a seamless transition for them.
Meta knows that because Mastodon doesn't have data portability like Bluesky, if they can get people on Threads, people will probably never leave.
@davemark My guess is that if you already have a Facebook or Instagram account, you are already signed up. I read that you can use your existing Instagram handle, but not sure about Facebook.
@davemark By the way, in case you don’t know, if you have an Amazon account, that user name and password lets you sign into any Amazon property anywhere in the world. Amazon, Audible, etc.
@mcelhearn I was aware of Amazon and audible, but what are some other examples?
@davemark the last thing I want is a twitter-like product with the extended family and friends I have on Facebook. The best thing about Twitter was connecting with interesting people (like you) who I don’t know or don’t know well.
@davemark I don’t particularly think it’s for those of us already here. I see it as more for those who wan’t out of Twitter or who are already heavily invested in Facebook. Once they are exposed to the federation, maybe we can convince some of them here is better.
