I’ve read a ton about ChatGPT and generative AI at this point but still have had a hard time articulating how I feel about it until finally I realized it’s just directional vibes. https://vickiboykis.com/2023/02/26/what-should-you-use-chatgpt-for/

@vicki As I grumbled to another academic who mentioned similar findings: We're just too smart for it 😢

Really appreciate your efforts in experimenting and writing it up, though! Your thoughts pretty much mirror the other academic conversations around ChatGPT that I've been tuning into.

@matthras say more about what “too smart” means in this case?

@matthras I’m curious about the “too smart” part too. Are you simply saying that ChatGPT is not very smart? Or something that I’m not getting?

@vicki
I guess it's not cool to use the word "zeitgeist" anymore...

@f A reply by @nshephard nailed it, but in case you didn't see it:

* Enough to know if an answer is right/wrong
* Able to discern what is useful and what isn't

In essence, requiring relevant specialist knowledge (that's further beyond the majority of the sources that ChatGPT has evaluated), as well as the skill to critically evaluate ChatGPT's output.
