Looking forward to seeing the Harbor Seals at Hopkins Beach again soon! 💙 Loved painting this in watercolor after observing the seals in Pacific Grove.

Prints are available thru July 4, then my shop closes.

Ooh, this year’s Astronomy Photographer of the Year shortlist has been released by Royal Museums Greenwich. And they’re (obviously, and as always) stunning: https://www.rmg.co.uk/whats-on/astronomy-photographer-year/galleries/2023-shortlist

Journalist on Twitter offering to pay for stories of children identifying as animals. My faves from the replies:

"My son identifies as a sloth selectively. Usually when his room needs tidying or I've asked him to unload the dishwasher. Feel free to DM"

"My child identifies as a plant if that's close enough? They start nursery next week."

"My wife identifies as a pillar of salt - it’s a lot"

"have you tried identifying as a serious journalist"

Remember Christian Cooper? Bird watching while black in Central Park had 911 called on him because his blackness threatening someone. Must have been those dangerous binoculars!

Christian will be the host for National Geographic's new show "Extraordinary Birder", a six-episode series to premiere June 17, on Nat Geo.

Food, incoming spice sale, long post

So it's not officially announced yet, but Diaspora Co. just mentioned they'll have a July sale as they're moving from glass jars to refillable tins. I'd get on their mailing list temporarily if you want a shot of catching it? https://www.diasporaco.com/

Not sponsored, but I've been testing Diaspora Co.'s work for a while and it is *so awesome*. (Like we use their chai masala for baking and chai and it's super tasty in both!) And it's BIPOC and queer owned to boot! And they offer bulk spices! And since it's delayed less in transit/brokerages the stuff lasts longer!

And I know that's not a lot of info, it's just that their big sales tend to sell out dang fast so I wanted to give as much of a heads up as I could.

I thought I'd bring a bit of colour into everyone's timeline this Saturday.

This is a selection of colour pigments I saw in the window of a craft shop in Venice recently.

This sort of thing is one of the joys of wandering aimlessly around city streets.

A disabled friend has come to the realization that his beloved cat needs a different human. I’ll mostly share his description verbatim, with more pics in thread. Please let me know if you or someone you know might be Milo’s human—or boost if so inclined. 🙏🏼🧡 The friend will be moving to Colorado as soon as he can, and I might be making a trip to Oregon in mid-July, so any places between and including Sonoma County, California, and those locations could be doable.
