Hey I'm Alicia, an artist who really hasn't been feeling social media lately (especially IG and FB) so I thought I'd try Mastodon out and see if I like the simplicity of it more. I think I picked the perfect server, since I'm much more likely to be in my sunny garden than anywhere else. 🌞

I've bumped into a few people into #fibre and #dyeing, especially using plant dyes. One way to find them that you might want to try out would be searching for those hashtags or others that are inspirational to you. Personally, I regularly search for #MiddleEarth, just to see what's new. 😄

If you mainly post pictures, you might have a look at Pixelfed. It's basically Instagram but Mastodon style. And you can interact with people from Mastodon.

@Laurie Thanks! I think you're definitely an artist, your stuff is gorgeous! I like digital as well because most of the time paper is sensory hell to me, and there's just so much more you can do. I'm learning French and Spanish as well, very slowly lol I click better with Japanese so I tend to put more time into it. French is super challenging to me.

@Alicircles I like digital mostly because I can be comfortable/not in pain doing it, plus I can smooth the lines easier (osteoarthritis + joint instability).

French is... interesting. I have a difficult time understanding it spoken. It sounds to me like a lot of words are mumbled or just not enunciated clearly. Spanish is much easier in that respect. But reading, French is easier, no doubt in part because of my years of reading the backs of cereal boxes! (I'm Canadian, and by law, all packaging must have both English and French.)

@AkkalonAS Hello and thank you! Too many lol on MWF I learn Japanese and French, TTS I learn Plains Cree and ASL. I sometimes like to learn Spanish and Latin as well.

@AkkalonAS I guess I had too much to begin with, last year I was doomscrolling on FB at least 2 hrs a day; between tasks, while letting my dogs outside, and while making food. So I replaced that with language learning apps/books. So much more dopamine from getting answers right than from mindlessly scrolling. but on days when I don't have a lot of time I try to do at least 10 minutes of flashcards for each language, and learn more grammar stuff on days when I have time. I usually only have an hour in the morning and an hour at night max but some times I treat myself with a hyperfocus day. My tv and video games are all in French when I unwind at the end of the day. Podcasts are so great for practicing speaking and listening while you're doing stuff as well!

@bOrgCastAMO awww I love her! She looks like my Leopard Gecko, Willow, I had in my early 20s and she has the same name as my favourite Crested Gecko I had back then too!

A little tip though, consider pinning your intro post to your feed and/or filling out your bio with similar information including hashtags. It will make it easier for people interested in similar things to find you. Other than that you can follow hashtags too which is a great way to find people with similar interests.

@Alicircles I eventually want to play all the main FF games, especially since I have a bunch of them for PC already. 😆 3 has been fun so far, but I am following a guide since it's from the era of "here's a boat, go get lost" progression.

@linkhs nice! I think I played the 3d DS remake of 3 back when I had one. And a crap load of Tactics on my PSP, but it's so hard to get myself to game these days. As much as I'd love to play them all. Maybe if I put them in French or Japanese it would motivate me cuz then I'm learning too lol
