Edited 1 year ago

EDIT3: i'm going to close this to new submissions since they've slowed to a trickle now

new to mastodon? do you make cool shit? if you've got under 100 followers, reply to this with 1-4 images of stuff you've made and i will boost you to my 5.8k followers, because i want people who do creative work to find a place on mastodon

please note i will be spacing out boosts to not spam my followers too much

EDIT2: if you're a composer (or do similar non-visual work) you should probably drop a link to where people can listen to your work. maybe add cover art if you have any

EDIT: if i miss your post it's likely you're on an instance mine has muted, I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do about that

I’m seeing folks from on despairing that the site’s new limits, and its general m*sk-era brokenness, will compromise their ability to stay updated on the catastrophe unfolding in their homeland and share emergency info.

Once more: mastodon/fediverse needs to think seriously about how to expand to users in Asia and Africa and how to handle emergencies

I get vastly — vastly! — more engagement and sales here than any other social site. Artists, this is the place.

Here are some small tips for new masto users:
-FOLLOW LOTS OF PEOPLE.
-follow hashtags you have interest in
-USE HASHTAGS when you post!

Mastodon doesn’t have an algorithm like twitter or Instagram (which is a good thing) so you get to really curate your experience here. Following more people and following hashtags gives you a feed with lots going on and helps expose you to new people!

Use hashtags so others can find you!

Also, the biggest thing I can recommend is to actually INTERACT.

Mastodon•ART 🎨 Curator

There are many folk on .art, and even more besides, who need alt text to be able to interact with the media in toots.

Alt text can be as simple as 'a pencil sketch of a tree' or 'an abstract painting in red and blue' - you don't need to write essays.

See a guide on alt text here:

https://mastodon.art/@Curator/109279035107793247

I don't boost anything that doesn't have alt text (or a call for help with alt text), and neither do many others. If you want your work shared more, alt-text it. <3

Canada Day is July 1st.

As we reflect on 156 years of confederation as a nation, and the many positive things about Canada, it's important to acknowledge that our home is on Indigenous land.

The Indigenous people we share this land with are celebrating around 15,000+ years of culture.

This beautiful Indigenous version of Canada's flag was designed by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Curtis Wilson.

📣 To celebrate , we're launching our new CIRA Indigenous stock images collection, a free online resource that addresses the Indigenous representation gap in most stock .

📸 Captured by photographer Shelby Lisk, all images feature a full cast of Indigenous models photographed at Indigenous-owned locations.

We encourage you to use these images for any and all of your digital needs: https://www.cira.ca/indigenous-stock-images

Are you a baker? If so, I need your help! I'm researching sourdough baking during the COVID lockdowns for my MA and would love you to fill out my survey!

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/N9MHNF9

I'm also looking for people to tell me about their sourdough baking journey (Yes, even yours!), so if you would be interested, please DM me!

Please boost to help me federate my new GoToSocial instance!

And share my icy tree from last winter.

It's supposed to be 100 degrees Fahrenheit here today and I miss winter!

I do have a profile picture but it doesn't always show up....

I have read that covid
is coming to
an “exhausted close”
and though it is true
though it is certainly true
that all of us are exhausted
that does not mean
the virus is coming to a close.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you who use AltText to add descriptions to your pics and media. As someone who used to be able to see but has been blind for over 30 years now, it allows me to see the pic in my mind and is greatly appreciated and allows me to enjoy them.

Another heartfelt thanks to those who use in their hashtags. This makes it so much easier to understand with a screen reader and for those who read print as well! ❤️

These are pied stilts. They come to "my" lake (Herdsman) in Summer, sometimes in BIG numbers and then they tend to leave over Winter so it was quite a pleasant surprise to find this group in what is otherwise a bit of a quiet time for birds here.
